GANDHI-NEHRU POLITICAL LEGACY A BURDEN IN PERSPECTIVE OF HARD INDIAN REALITIES

The Air Chief marshal of India N.A.K Brown has stated recently that Jawaharlal Nehru the then  P.M  did not permit the air force to bombard Chinese positions in 1962 war for fear of more fierce offensive by China. This fact is not new. Our country has been governed by timid (if not cowardly) leadership barring Shastri, Indira and Vajpayee. The result has been terrible for us and we lost lakhs of sq.miles of Indian territories in the north and the northeast. Now China stages intrusions almost every day into our borders. It has installed infrastructure, military equipments and immense manpower accretions in the Pak-occupied J&K. Our borders are in constant danger of being violated as no matching military facilities have yet been put in place to counter any outside aggression. The Chinese bellicose and imperious attitude continues to be a challenge with wide international ramifications for our national interests. Gandhi-Nehru legacy has bled this country profusely. The communal bifurcation of the country on the basis of so-called two-nation theory and lackadaisical, ineffective, inadequate and belated response to Pakistani invasion of J&K in 1948 is the genesis of today’s social disharmony, communalism and terrorism.

Still we adore and lionize Gandhi and Nehru as national Heroes who comprised a failed leadership.

It is high time the distorted history authored by vested interests over the years gave way to impartial accounts of historicism.

  1. The recent revelations made through classified documents about Netaji Shubhash Chandra Bose undoubtedly place Nehru in the pantheon of leaders who connived with the British and acted against national interests for self aggrandizement. Gandhi as a blind backer of Nehru invites more public scrutiny & research. The duo can be anything but patriots.
